Ortakoy

The village of Ortakoy lies on the western shore of the Bosphorus River. It was swallowed up by the city decades ago, but has retained its unique character. It was here in Ortakoy that I purchased a small, damaged book, the pages of which I have used in many of these works. This image shows a couple of businessmen in western dress, standing in the narrow cobblestone streets of the village. In the background can be seen a woman in traditional dress. I echoed this oft-repeated theme of old merging with new by abstracting parts of the foreground.
